I THINK...PALACE ON WHEELS...IS THE BEST TRAIN IN INDIA..BUT ITS ROUTE IS ONLY WITHIN RAJASTHAN..

People have already mentioned about Duronto, Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains functioning in the IR which provide services which are tad better compared to the Indian Railways Standards. But when it comes to 'conventional' Express trains, I guess the train which takes the prize would be the Shaan-e-Bhopal Express. 

Connecting Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh to New Delhi, It's the First ISO 9000Certified train from the Indian Railways.

certified train, Bhopal Express' AC as well as Sleeper coaches are GPS enabled and provide information such as the train speed, distance to final destination and the next stoppage station on an LCD screen.

An international Standardization certificate should/would clear ones qualms on maintanence and service, I presume. 

It also apparantly has the distinction of being the fastest non-Rajdhani, non-Shatabdi and Non- Sampark Kranti train in India.
