Co- means together. Cotransport indicates both molecules being transported originate on the same side of the membrane and travel together across it.

Counter- means against or "in the opposite direction". Counter transport indicates the two molecules being transported originate on different sides of the membrane and travel past each other across it.

Think about the words themselves to keep from getting confused.

Co- means together. Cotransport indicates both molecules being transported originate on the same side of the membrane and travel together across it.

Counter- means against or "in the opposite direction". Counter transport indicates the two molecules being transported originate on different sides of the membrane and travel past each other across it.
