Transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma of a plant is known as Pollination.

There are two types of pollination.

1) Self Pollination :

  • When pollen grain transfer from anther to stigma of a same plant.

  • External agents are not required.

  • Occurs in bisexual flower.

  • Example : Wheat, rice etc.

2) Cross Pollination :

  • When pollen grain transfer from anther to stigma of different plant.

  • External agents like wind, water, insects etc are required.

  • Occurs in both bisexual and unisexual flowers.

  • Example : Cucurbits, apple etc.
