1) the London Underground railway partially solved the housing crisis by carrying large numbers of people to and from the city
2)it enabled people to live outside central London and still travel to work
3)these well developed transit systems became essential for metropolises like New York, Tokyo, etc and the population thus became dispersed.

3) Population in the city became more dispersed. Better planned suburbs and a good railway network enabled large numbers to live outside Central London and travel to work.
