Answer:

  • Work done = 92540 J

Explanation:

Given:

  • Initial velocity (u) = 20 km/h
  • Final velocity (v) = 40 km/h
  • Mass (m)  = 2000 kg

To Find:

  • Work done to increase velocity of car.

Formula used:

  • Work done (w) = 1/2mv² - 1/2mu²

Now, firstly we will change its units into m/s.

⇒ Initial velocity = 20 km/h

⇒ Initial velocity = 20 × 5/18 m/s

⇒ Initial velocity = 5.56 m/s

And,

⇒ Final velocity = 40 km/h

⇒ Final velocity = 40 × 5/18 m/s

⇒ Final velocity = 11.11 m/s

Now, put the values in the formula,

⇒ Work done = 1/2mv² - 1/2mu²

⇒ Work done = 1/2 × 2000 × 11.11² - 1/2 × 2000 × 5.56²

⇒ Work done = 1/2 × 2000 × 123.45 - 1/2 × 2000 × 30.91

⇒ Work done = 1/2 × 246900 - 1/2 × 61820

⇒ Work done = 123450 - 30910

⇒ Work done = 92540 J

Hence, 92540 J work to be done to increase the velocity of a car from 20 km/h to 40 km/h.
