Hi! Could someone explain this problem clearly? A hammer weighing 2.5kg moving with a velocity of 1m/s strikes the head of the nail driving it 10cm into the wall. What is the acceleration during the impact and the impulse imparted to the wall?

we know the formula,
v2 = u2 + 2as
10 cm = 0.1 m
02 = 12 + 2*a * 0.1
- 1 = 0.2 * a
-1 / 0.2 = a
a = - 5 m / s2
Impulse = Change in momentum
= m(v - u)
= 2.5 kg ( 0 - 1)
= - 2.5 kg m /s
Acceleration : - 5 m /. s2
Impulse = - 2.5 kg m / s
v2 = u2 + 2as
10 cm = 0.1 m
02 = 12 + 2*a * 0.1
- 1 = 0.2 * a
-1 / 0.2 = a
a = - 5 m / s2
Impulse = Change in momentum
= m(v - u)
= 2.5 kg ( 0 - 1)

Acceleration : - 5 m /. s2
Impulse = - 2.5 kg m / s
