Explanation:

a) Atomic number = 29

Electrons configuation =2,8,8,11

n shell =11 electrons

i shell =8 electrons ( octate achieved)

i) The symbols used for writing the electron configuration start with the shell number (n) followed by the type of orbital and finally the superscript indicates how many electrons are in the orbital. For example: Looking at the periodic table, you can see that Oxygen has 8 electrons.

ii) The value of l is dependent on the principal quantum number n. Its general formula is (n-1). Conclusion: As no of electrons in this element are 24. So in first shell, there are 2 electron, in 2nd shell there are 8 electron while 3rd shell there are 14.

b) So, dz2,dx2−y2 pairs of d-orbitals will have electron density along the axis. Therefore, option (A) dz2,dx2−y2 is correct.
