We know, opposite sides of a rectangle are equal.

This means,

x+y =30cm.... [Eq--1]

Also

x-y = 14cm..... [Eq--2]

Now, to cancel y, add the 2 equations.

x+y+x-y= 30+14

2x=44cm

So, x= 44/2 = 22cm.

Now to find y, Put the value of x in the 1st equation.

So we get,

22+y =30cm

y =30-22cm

y=8cm...

Hope the explanation helps❤️

opposite sides of rectangle are equal...
so , x-y=14
=> x= 14+y ....(i)
and x+y= 30 ....(ii)
putting (i) in eq.(ii)
14+y+y=30
2y=30-14
2y=16
y=16/2
y=8
so, x=14+8
x=22
