Answer:

There is no scientific reason, but a moral reason.

In ancient times when people used to travel through forests using bullock carts and horses, the stopped when a cat crossed their way, as she may be behind her prey or she may be running away from bigger animals.

Due to hurtling made by bulls, the prey might run away or the cat may be frightened.

And if she is running away, the bigger animal could attack their bulls.

Therefore they stopped for 4–5 minutes so that they do not disturb the hunt.

On each landing, opposite the lift-shaft, the poster with the enormous face gazed from the wall. It was one of those pictures which are so contrived that the eyes follow you about when you move.BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU the caption beneath it ran.
