Question: Charecteristics of Sound.

------------------------------

\underline{\mathsf{ANSWER}}

What is sound?

Sound is a form of energy. It is produced due to the vibration of molecules. Sound gives us a sensation of hearing.

Charecteristics of any Sound Wave

Amplitude [A]

The magnitude of the maximum disturbance in the medium on either side of the mean value is called amplitude of the wave. It's usually represented by the letter 'A'

S.I unit: m

Frequency [ν]

The number of complete oscillations per unit time is called frequency.

S.I unit: Hz

Time Period [T]

Time is the time taken to complete 1 oscillation

OR

The time take by two consecutive compressions or rarefactions to cross a fixed point is called the time period of the wave.

S.I unit: s

Wavelength [λ]

The distance between two consecutive compressions or two consecutive rarefactions is called  wavelength.

S.I unit: m

(λ is pronounced as lambda)

Speed of a wave

Speed of a wave is the distance travelled by the wave in unit time.

S.I unit: m/s

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER MATE

 (i) Pitch

 (ii) Quality

 (iii) Loudness.

    (i) Pitch depends on the frequency of the sound waves produced by the source.

(ii) Quality (or Timbre) of the sound depends on wave form.

(iii) Loudness depends as the following:

 (a) Loudness is directly proportional to the square of the amplitude.

 (b) Loudness is inversely proportional to the square of the distance.

 (c)  Loudness depends on the surface area of the vibrating body.

 (d)  Loudness depends on the density of the medium.

 (e)  Loudness depends on the presence of resonant bodies
