Plant hormones are the chemical substances which are produced within the plants, these are produced in extremely low concentrations. These hormones control growth and development of plant in all aspects. Plant hormones initiates from the embryogenesis, the development of organ, defense from pathogen and generation of tolerance from stress and reproductive development.

Auxins promotes elongation of stem, these inhibit the growth of the lateral buds (apical dominance). They are produced in the buds, stems stem, and root tips.

Gibberellins  also promote stem elongation. Gibberellic acid was the first of this class of hormone to be discovered.

Cytokinin promotes division of cells. They are produced in growing regions of the plants , such as meristems at tip of the shoot.

Abscisic acid promotes seed dormancy by inhibiting cell growth. It is also involved in opening and closing of stomata during the wilting of plants.

Ethylene is used in the ripening of the fruits.
