DNA is negatively charged and this can be attributed to it's chemical morphology where the phosphate groups in the DNA backbone carry negatively-charged oxygen molecules giving the phosphate-sugar backbone of DNA an overall negative charge.

Answer:

DNA does contain in its backbone phosphates. These are negetive charge. This negetive charge is responsible for whole DNA molecule to appear negative charged as mild acid.So it is called * a nucleic ACID, a ''DNacid''

hope it helps
