During the second world war, India was under the colonial rule of the United Kingdom. Indians were sent to the war front by the British to fight in the Allied Front. Quit India Movement which was launched by Gandhi in 1942 was a major turning point of India's freedom struggle during the war period. He refused to cooperate with the British in any way until independence was granted. The government refused to accept the proposal of Gandhi and arrested many national and local Congress leaders, and then moved to suppress the violent reaction of Congress. Subhas Chandra Bose also extended valuable contribution during this period. He formed the Azad Hind Fauj and took help of Japan in freeing India from the clutches of the British
