Although dams are constructed to stop the over-flowing of rivers during floods, they have adverse effects too.
• During monsoon, the excess water of the rivers are blocked by the dams which creates problems for fishes
• Dams are also built for hydel-power generation which affects the survival of fishes and other aquatic animals.
• The plants and other vegetation also do not get enough water and minerals due to the presence of the dams as they block the water.
