Ram Mohan Roy was the founder of Brahmo Samaj. It became a great socio-religious movement of the time.

He took the initiative to fight against the social practice of ‘Sati’. His efforts bore fruits when Sati practice was legally abolished in 1827.

He fought against social issues such as polygamy, sati practice and child marriage.

He established the Hindu College in 1817 with the help of his friend, David Hare. He also established the Anglo-Hindu School in 1822 and General Assembly’s Institution in 1826.

He was also a writer. His works were mainly related to history, geography and science.

He is also known as the “father of Bengali prose”.

The title of “Raja” was conferred on him.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy was social religious reformer in India he is also known as father of modern India and champion of women rights he was the founder of brahmo Samaj at Kolkata in 1828 Roy was against Idol worship and propagated the Oneness of God through brahmo Samaj he also fought against caste system which divided our society.

he took a lot of social reformer for the upliftment of women in India arise his voice against Sati system polygamy and children's marriage he was very much disturb with the Sati system his own sister in law was forced to be Sati. he tried to show through his writing and the practice of Sati had no sanction in Asian text through his journal"sambada kaumudi" he launched a campaign against the practice of Sati persecuted Lord William bentink the governor general to ban the practice of Sati ultimately bentink passed a law against Sati in 1829 through ortodox Hindu was against this Raja Ram Mohan Roy quoted From Asian text of Manu, showing the Hindu religion does not sanction 38 permits we do to live as window due to efforts in 1829 the practice of Sati was illegal
