Did you stop eating from the day you felt that the food was bad? Of course not.

In Olympics, participation is more important than winning. This time we have sent a very strong contingent comprising about 124 athletes participating in various disciplines. We have been close to medals a couple of times, thanks to the effort of Abhinav Bindra, San-Bop and Dipa Karmakar.

The amount we spend on our athletes are miserably poor, it is not too long ago where we found foul food in the National Sports Camp. Our Sports Ministry does not have enough funds to spend mainly because we have our priorities elsewhere in disciplines such as Military, Foreign Policy, getting into the Elite Nuclear Group, Technology and important fields where we really need a push.

This calls for the corporate’s to take over the sports industry in country, already corporate’s such as Tata and JSW are doing an excellent job in honing the skills of talents sports persons in India.

Additionally, India is not too intelligent in investing in sports as well. We have medal hopes and participants in an Olympic games, we do not emphasize the need to give the best support for our own athletes. Do you know how many Athletes do not have a Physio accompanying them in Rio Olympics? The body aches and you just lie down like a poor peasant after a hard days work.

As a Sports fan in India, who absolutely loves sports following the Olympic Games from 2000 Sydney Games, I should admit that this Olympics was not reaping any rewards for us. But one has to remember that we have a household name in Dutee Chand, Dipa Karmakar, Ayonika Paul, Sudha Singh and other numerous athletes. Who still have age at their side to go and have a crack at a medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

If countries like Fiji, Puerto Rico and other micro nations felt the same way before this Olympics they would not have won an Olympic Gold medal in this games. It is not just about winning, it is about participation. Participation is the pride.

Additionally, the system needs a re-boot and it needs to start with having an efficient Sports Minister who can run things in reality with the least of the least budgets. We still should compete at the highest level, I am sure that the Indian athletes will put up a better show in medal tally in Tokyo, to prove the naggers wrong.

Largest ever Indian Contingent No Medals till date; everyone might be thinking that “Out of 1.22 Billion population why we can’t produce even 10 People who can bring us Medals. Why India is a Non-sporty Nations. Why Indians are only good in coding not in sporting?

These questions haunt us every sixth year when Olympics are held, it really feel shameful for each Indian on this earth.

Most of us might be thinking

“Why we don’t stop participating and save crore of Rupees which we can use for other purpose?” Why we insult each Indian, when we know we are not good at world stage?

I was also thinking same and Fired these question to on of my friend who is a Coach with IOA. Here what he told me: -

1) Olympics are time to

a) Celebrate Sportsmanship:- Sports is not only about Win or lose it’s all about Participating. Loosing is not permanent its just chance to Improve.

b) Be Proud: - Getting an Olympic birth is itself a matter of Pride. We should be proud of the entire Participant who fought against our Society, Culture, Infrastructure and Corruption to secure largest ever birth to Olympics. Half of the Nations In world even don’t get an Olympic Birth.

c) Showcase Indian Courage: - Olympics are showcase of All those Indian who have immerged on world stage beating all odds and fighting out own Culture, Govt policies and Corrupt official which are biggest enemy of sports.

d) Salute Every Indian Sportsperson:- They are the real heroes , Despite all those odds they take all the pain, suffering, insult to say to world , We may be down but not dead, They don’t get regular salary, sacrifice everything just for the pride of nation and pride of Every Indian.

2) Actually Olympics are also time to shame,

a) All those mommies and Papa’s who don’t let their children peruse sports.

b) Our Useless culture, which don’t recognize sports a career.

c) Our Lazy Govt. who never takes sports seriously and not able to provide an Infrastructure to support world class Sports.

d) Corrupt sports officials who eat the fund which are meant for our sports person and create red tape to harass our Sports-persons.

e) Our media, which always spread negativity and undermine our sportsperson.

f) Each such Indians, who don’t Understand S of Sports and expect India to top the Medal Tally. Wake up you are not watching Bollywood movie.

Now I am feeling Proud and Ashamed both at the same time.
