Answer: The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several metres away, but to get the smell from cold food you have to go close because the kinetic energy of the particles of matter increases with the increase in temperature.

It is because of evaporation of some of liquid from food. The liquid from a hot sizzling food forms vapour due to high temperature. These vapours spread around in all the directions because of their high kinetic energy. When these vapours reaches our nose we get the smell of food...
But in case of cold food the rate of evaporation from food is very low..
