1a)  $-5+-8=-5-8=-13$

1b) 17 + x = 0. Subtract 17 from both sides -> x = -17

Hence, the blank is -17.

1c) -53 + x = -53. Add 53 from both sides -> x = 0

Hence, the blank is 0.

1d) $(-9)-(-4)=-9+4=-5$, because $-(-x)=x$.

1e)$5+(-5)=5-5=0$.

Question 2:

2a) $9*-3*-6=-27*-6=162$

2b) $-36/-9=-\frac{36}{-9} =-(-\frac{36}{9})=-(-4)=4$

2c) $2-\frac{3}{5}=\frac{10}{5} -\frac{3}{5} =\frac{7}{5} =1\frac{2}{5}$

2d) $\frac{2}{5} /\frac{1}{2} =\frac{2}{5} *\frac{2}{1}=\frac{4}{5}$

2e) $3n-2=46$, add 2 to both sides: $3n=48$. Divide 3 on both sides to get $n=16$.

Question 3:

3a) $52.5/10=5.25$ (Shift decimal point)

3b) $26.3/1000=0.0263$ (1000 has 3 zeroes, so move the decimal point 3 places)

Question 4:

1 liter = Rs. 50

8 liters = Rs. 50 x 8 = Rs. 400

You have to pay Rs. 400 for 8 liters of petrol.
