The Himalayas are called as the young fold mountains due to the very fact that these mountains were created by the lift due to the subduction of the Indian plate under the Eurasian continental plate around 40 - 50 million years ago.

The Himalayas comprises mostly of the sedimentary and the metamorphic rocks. They were formed as a result of the Indian plate colliding with the Eurasian plate there by folding the Eurasian plate leading to the birth of the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau.

Hope this answer helps to you☺️☺️
