Hindi and regional language films were often set in rural areas. Think of a film set in rural India and describe the agrarian society and culture that is shown in it. How realistic do you think the portrayal is? Have you seen any recent film set in rural areas? If not how would you explain it?

Answer:

There are many Bollywood movies that have depicted agrarian culture.

Explanation:

There are films like Mother India, Upkaar and Lagaan which were based on life of farmers and agriculture. They depicted agrarian culture. These films do not portray a complete picture of the farmers and village life as they do take cinema leniency and show few things from entertainment point of view.

These movies have shown Zamindari system, exploitation of farmers and women on the agricultural land by the land-owners. The movie ‘Lagaan’ had shown the exploitation of people by the British.
