let the no. be x than according to the question, one third of the number =x/3 and it is small than 2x/3(two third of the same number) by 7. therefore equation will be:-
x/3+7=2x/3
(x+21)/3=2x/3
cross multiply,
x+21=2x
21=2x-x
therefore x=21
