‘God’s Own Country’ was coined by a leading ad agency for Kerala Tourism Board to make the state every tourist’s dream destination and it did do wonders to Kerala’s revenue. It is considered one of marketing media successes. Today Kerala is on every traveler’s bucket list and seldom does anyone who visits Kerala go back dissatisfied.
But if you think it is an original phrase, think again. God’s Own Country, is a phrase that was first used to describe the Wicklow Mountains (Ireland) and has subsequently been used to refer to several places including Surrey, Australia, United States, New Zealand, Yorkshire,Cornwall, Scotland and Wales. The phrase has been abbreviated to Godzone or less often Godzown.
But hey, to be fair, Kerala does live up to it. Rare are lands that have been blessed with such abundant nature, rich culture, colorful festivals, diverse flora and fauna, breathtaking temples, mosques and churches and so much more.

✴According to Hindu mythology, Kerala was created by Lord Parsurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu by throwing his axe across the sea to create new land for devotees to live peacefully. So Kerala is God's own creation.✴
