First tricolour flag was designed during swadeshi movement(red,green,yellow).
It had 8 lotuses representing 8 provinces if britishers.
It had cresten or cresent moon at centre representing unity of Hindu and Muslims.

Another tricolour flag was designed by Gandhiji which is our national flag.
It had chakki at centre which represented self respect of Gandhi.
It was carried during propagandas and all.
Thus it came to be known as our national flag.
