India has a tropical monsoon climate and over 90% of the crops grown in the country are rain fed. This is a major advantage as well as disadvantage that the country faces.
In times when there is no rainfall, the farmers suffer a lot and most of them end up committing suicide, due to lack of will to make ends meet. Rainfed crops account for 48 percent area under food crops and 68 percent under non-food crops.
