Given : Two satellites A and B

Ratio of masses = 3:1 = mA ( mass A ) : mB (mass B )

Radius of circular orbit of A and B is r and 4r respectively.

rA : rB = r : 4r

We know that,

Mechanical energy,

E = - G Mm / 2r

therefore, E < M / r

= Let E A and EB be energy of satellites A and B

therefore, EA / EB = mA / mB * rB / rA = 3/1 * 4r/r

= EA/EB = 12/1

THE RATIO OF TOTAL MECHANICAL ENERGY IS 12:1
