As ionic compounds has strong electromagnetic force which is not easy to break as compared to covalent bond..

rupnalkarsakshi: Ionic bond takes place between a negatively charged anion and a positively charged cation due to transfer of electrons..There is a strong electrostatic force of attraction between anion and cation..Breaking this bond needs a lot of energy...Hence melting point is high

ionic compounds have strong force of attraction between the positively and negatively charged ions .So to break this force of attraction a lot of energy is required . Hence the melting of ionic compounds are very high
