In case of methyl radical the Carbon atom has 3 bond pairs and one odd electron which is present in one of the p orbital and this p orbital does not involve in hybridisation. Thus the carbon in methyl radical involves in sp2 hybridisation. ... This can happen when it is sp3 hybridised.
