hi

here is your answer

PREPARATION OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE

PROPERTIES

1)Also known as CAUSTIC SODA.

2) It is white powder that is a has strong basic nature.

3) It is available in pellets, flakes, granules, and as prepared solutions at a number of different concentrations.

METHODS OF PREPARATION

1)IN INDUSTRIES(CHLOR-ALKALI PROCESS)

a)Produced by the famous CHLOR-ALKALI PROCESS.

b)SODIUM HYDROXIDE is obtained from this solution by evaporation of water.

c)2NaCl+ 2H2O = 2NaOH + H2 + Cl2

2)Castner — Kellener Process

a) Inside of tank is lined with ‘ebonite.’ Anode is made of titanium. Flowing layer of mercury (Hg) at the bottom of tank serves as cathode.

By Ionization of Nacl

2NaCl e- 2Na+ + 2Cl-

Now

Reaction at cathode

2Na+ +2 e- à 2Na

Na forms Amalgam.

Reaction at Anode

2Cl-aCl2+ 2e-

now the amalgum is moved to another chamber called denuder where it is treated with water to produce NaOH.

hope it helps

\sf\bold{\boxed{\mathbb{Question}}}

▶Preparation of Sodium Hydroxide(Caustic Soda).

By Chlor-Alkali process

=> Sodium Hydroxide is prepared by treating Brine solution (NaCl solution) with water which gives sodium Hydroxide(NaOH) , along with Hydrochloric acid.

▶Chemical reaction

NaCl(l) + H2O(l) ==> NaOH(l) + HCL(l)
