Answer:

Total number of possibilities = 12

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 3 pair of socks

We have to select 3 socks in such a way that 3 sock contain 1 pair always

Let first select the one pair of sock then

there are 3 possibilities for selection

so we get the first factor = 3

Now suppose we have selected the first pair and we have to select the single sock

After selection of first pair their are four possibilities so

Their are 4 possibilities for selection.

And second factor will be = 4

Therefor

Total number of possibilities

= possibilities for selection of pair × possibilities for selection of single

Putting the values we get

Total number of possibilities = 3 × 4 = 12

Thus

Total number of possibilities = 12
