Answer:

W.B. Yeats has tried to touch a very important topic through his poem. He says that it is almost impossible to find a person in your life who loves you truly. By saying truly, he means the one who loves you for your qualities and not your looks. He says that only God loves us for what we are from inside.

The poem is basically a conversation between the poet, Yeats and a young girl named Anne Gregory. The poet tells her that if she finds a young boy who becomes sad because of her rejection, it doesn’t mean that he was a true lover. He could have been in love with her because of her beautiful yellow hair. This means that the boy might be in love with her because of her attractive looks. He says that a true lover will be the one who will love her for her inner qualities and not her looks. To this, Anne says that she will change her looks by dying her hair into some other colour. She will become less attractive and then, maybe, she will find a true love for herself. So, at last, he explains to her that the previous night, he had heard some religious man saying that only God loves us for what we are. This means that God never loves us for our looks but for our inner beauty.

Solution :-

Poem : For Anne Gregory

Poet : W.B. Yeats

The required summary is as follows ::

For Anne Gregory

The peom 'For Anne Gregory' written by William Butler Yeats is a typical modern poem but it is more like a second person conversation. The poet appreciates Anne Gregory for her beauty but ultimately describes the real truth of this world. He, very exquisitely describes that nowadays people give more preference to external beauty instead of real beauty. He describes that no one can love Anne Gregory for herself alone that is fot her real beauty instead of the physical appearance. More ofnthe mens can get despaired and even love Anne for her honey - coloured yellowish hair which are like locks of ramparts around her ears. Then Anne asserts that she can get her hair dyed and coloured with different colours like brown, black or carrot which can make people not fell in love with her only for her hair. Even she expects that, men will then love her for herself alone and not for her beauty. The poet exclaims his mother experience. He once heard an old religious men reading a religious text that proved a fact which declared that only God can love anyóne for themselves alone and not for their beauty. This means that he wanted to say that God can only love Anne for herself and not her hair alone.

Central Idea of Poem ::

The poem signifies the physical world where people aspire more for worldly desires. They don't care for the inner conscience and just look at appearance. Physical beauty is mortal that is it can reduce by time but inner beauty is immortal which means that it will last long till the person lives. In this world, only God can love anyóne for themselves alone.
