This is a story of a girl Belinda, who has some strange pets. They have queer names. She calls the black kitten Ink, the little grey mouse as Blink, the yellow dog as Mustard and the cowardly dragon Custard. Belinda’s, the kitten, the mouse and the dog were very brave but the dragon was a coward. One day, a pirate came armed with a pistol into their house except the dragon, Custard and all the others were terrified of the pirate. Custard attacked the pirate and gobbled him up. Belinda then embraced him while Mustard licked him. Even after this brave incident, Custard did not give up his cowardly ways. He still kept on crying for a safe cage.

The poem 'The Tale of Custard the Dragon' written by Ogden Nash describes the importance of courage. In our life, we shouldn't underestimate anyóne. Time proves the real nature of everyone. This poem begins with the introduction of Belinda, who is little girl who owned a little white house. She had some pets. She had a little black kitten named Ink, a little gray mouse named blink, a little yellow dog named as Mustard and a dragon whose name was Custard. All these had some qualities in them except Custard. Ink, Blink and Mustard were very courageous in their nature. The did many brave and extraordinary things. But unlike them, Custard wanted peace and thus asked for a nice safe cage where he could live peacefully. Even Belinda had a little red wagon where they all sat and talked. Custard had large teeths and fire place - chimney like nose.
All of them made fun of Custard because of his cowardness and Belinda tickled him a lot. Then there came a pirate who looked terrific because of his appearance. He had pistols in both of his hand, daggers in his mouth and his one leg was of wood. Belinda got scared of this. She cried for help. Ink, Blink and Mustard even got scared and took a safe place. All of their courage went in vain. Then came the hero that is Custard. He slammed the pirate with his tail and thus killed him. Then all of the were safe completely. And again they all sat in the wagon and still Custard asked for a nice safe cage.

The central idea of the poem is that time and situation describes the true courage of a person. People just try to prove their bravery by sma actions. But when real time comes, that goes in vain. By underestimating people, we just try to showoff ourselves but that people prove themselves in the real situation.
