The chapter “The sehnai of bismillah khan” is the second part of “The Sound of music ”.

This chapter is about a great sehnai player 'Bismillah Khan' . He belongs to a well - known family of musicians from Bihar.

His grandfather, Rasool Bux Khan was , the sehnai - nawaz of the Bhojpuri king's court.

His father, Paigambar Bux , and other paternal ancestors were also great sehnai players. Bismillah khan was belonging from Dumraon village of Bihar.

Part - 2 Nd ( The Shennai of Bismillah Khan )

Answerers :

1) Aurangzeb banned the playing of the pungi because it had a shrill and unpleasant sound .

2) A shennai is a pipe with the natural hollow that is longer and broader than a pungi. It has 7 holes on the body of the pipe .

3) The Chennai was played traditionally in the temple at the royal quotes and on the wedding occasions . The credit must go to Bismillah Khan to take this instrument on to the classical stage .

4) Bismillah Khan got his big break with the opening of all India radio in Lucknow in 1938.

5) Bismillah Khan played the Shehnai on 15th August 1947 at Red Fort . He who was the first Indian to greet the nation with his musical instrument. This event was historic because we got independence on that day. He rowdies a heart out in the presence of number of people including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru .

6) He refused to start at shennai school in the USA because he never wanted to leave India.

He loved India so much and he did not want to settle anywhere except India. That is my whenever he was in a foreign country he kept yearning to see Hindustan.

7) Bismillah Khan loves India and Banaras from the bottom of heart . He says that he misses the holy Ganga and India when he goes abroad. While in Mumbai he thinks of only Banaras and the holy river. And when he was in Banaras he remembers the unique Mattha of Dumraon.
