Because during the TCA Cycle (aka Kreb’s Cycle), energy is both consumed and produced. During the TCA cycle, acetyl coA is converted to CO2 and H2O but during this process electrons are transfered to NADH and FADH2. These electron go through the electron transport chain to make ATP (the energy production part). In addition, during the conversion process ATP (GTP) is used to convert the intermediates (Succinyl CoA to Succinic acid/Succinate). Hence TCS cycle is Amphi(both)bolic pathway :-)
