Question 2(a).

_________________________

Factor Theorem:

A polynomial f(x) has a factor

(x-a) if and only if f(a)=0

_________________________

Here ,

Let f(x)=x³+x²-4x-4

i) f(2) = 2³+2²-4×2-4

= 8 + 4 - 8 - 4

= 0

Therefore,

(x-2) is a factor of f(x)

ii) f(-1) = (-1)³+(-1)²-4(-1)-4

= -1+1+4-4

= -5 + 5

= 0

Therefore,

(x+1) is a factor of f(x).

iii) f(-2) = (-2)³+(-2)²-4(-2)-4

= -8+4+8-4

= -12+12

= 0

Therefore,

(x+2) is a factor of f(x)

Now ,

f(x) = x³+x²-4x-4

= (x-2)(x+1)(x+2)
