Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth.

✴ This poem is written by Pan Ayres. She is a contemporary writer, a great entertainer who writes and performs comic verse. She started writing poems and verses as a hobby and has appeared in every major TV show in the UK. She has published six books of poems, and cut seven record albums including a collection of 50 best known poems.

===============================

Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth,

And spotted the dangers beneath

All the toffees I chewed,

And the sweet sticky food.

Meaning:

The poet had a toothache and now she regrets that if she had looked after her teeth well , then should never suffer toothache. She could keep the cavity away from her teeth if she would have some precautions in eating toffees and all sugar coated sweets.

==============================

Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.

I wish I’d been that much more willin’

When I had more tooth there than fillin’

To give up gobstoppers,

From respect to me choppers,

Meaning:

The poet wishes that she should have taken care of her teeth . She should not have thought about eating of a large and hard sweet , she would have spent her money on the eatables that might not cause harm to her teeth.

==============================

And to buy something else with me shillin’.

When I think of the lollies I licked

And the liquorice allsorts I picked,

Sherbet dabs, big and little,

All that hard peanut brittle,

Meaning:

The poet here regrets that now she is suffering from toothache . She should have remained this to think when she, was busy in eating different types of candies, lollies and all sweets at the young stage. Because excessive eating of those eatables invited cavities to attack on her teeth.

==============================

My conscience gets horribly pricked.

Oh I showed them the toothpaste all right,

I flashed it about late at night,

But up-and-down brushin’

And pokin’ and fussin’

Meaning:

Now the narrator thinks that she had never brushed her teeth well. If she had known about the importance of proper brushing she would never have suffered from toothache.

==============================

Didn’t seem worth the time – I could bite!

If I’d known I was paving the way

To cavities, caps and decay,

The murder of fillin’s,

Injections and drillin’s,

Meaning:

The poet says that if she had known that by eating sweets all the day and by not cleaning her teeth regularly, she was inviting cavities, caps and decay to her teeth, she would avoid all the sweets. Now she realises that she was facing the pain of injections and drills only because she had never looked after her teeth.

==============================

I’d have thrown all me sherbet away.

So I lay in the old dentist’s chair,

And I gaze up his nose in despair,

And his drill it do whine

In these molars of mine.

Meaning:

The poet says that it is all the result of her uncarefulness about the cleaning of her teeth, that made her to sit in the dentist's chair and staring at his face desperately . She does not like the sound of his drill machine which is used to fill the cavities of teeth.

==============================

‘Two amalgam,’ he’ll say, ‘for in there.’

How I laughed at my mother’s false teeth,

As they foamed in the waters beneath.

But now comes the reckonin’

It’s methey are beckonin’

Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.

Meaning:

The dentist told her that he would use two amalgum to fill his decay of teeth. Now the poet reminds that she used to laugh at her mother for her false teeth. But it seems that those false teeth were calling her. This is all of her uncleanliness of teeth.

Hey mate !!!!

◆This particular poem oh,I wish.......is wrote by a well known and a contemporary writer pam ayres.she wrote poems and verses as her hobby◆

\bold{\underline{Now, coming to poem}}

Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth,
And spotted the dangers beneath
All the toffees I chewed,
And the sweet sticky food.
Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.

In the stanza mentioned above poetess is regreting so that she could look after her teeth.And is thinking about her past that if she had not chewed too many toffees and sweet sticky food .

I wish I’d been that much more willin’
When I had more tooth there than fillin’
To give up gobstoppers,
From respect to me choppers,
And to buy something else with me shillin’.

In the above stanza poetess wished she could looked after her teeth well and my teeth were more instead of these fillings.If she had not licked that much of chocolates and sweets who chopped my teeth and if I should have purchased anything else from my silings (a currency)

When I think of the lollies I licked
And the liquorice allsorts I picked,
Sherbet dabs, big and little,
All that hard peanut brittle,
My conscience gets horribly pricked.

In the above stanza poetess starts thinking about the past eating which was the cause of tooth ace.she thinks about lollies, big ,small tooffe and amount of sweets and peanut she ate.

My mother, she told me no end,
‘If you got a tooth, you got a friend.’
I was young then, and careless,
My toothbrush was hairless,
I never had much time to spend.

In the particular stanza poetess regret that why she didn't listened to her mother .Her mother always told her if you got a tooth you got a friend but she was young and careless and she never spend much time on brushing her teeth.

Oh I showed them the toothpaste all right,
I flashed it about late at night,
But up-and-down brushin’
And pokin’ and fussin’
Didn’t seem worth the time – I could bite!

In the mentioned stanza poetess wished to look after her teeth and wished to brush her tooth day and night and up and down in the past which didn't worth much time to do.

If I’d known I was paving the way
To cavities, caps and decay,
The murder of fillin’s,
Injections and drillin’s,
I’d have thrown all me sherbet away.

the poetess regret that if she could that he was paving in the way to cavities,caps and decay and the fillings and injections and drilling in the future then she must looked after her tooth in the past and doesn't suffer any tooth ache.

So I lie in the old dentist’s chair,
And I gaze up his nose in despair,
And his drill it do whine
In these molars of mine.
‘Two amalgam,’ he’ll say, ‘for in there.’

Now, she is in the dentist chair with many fears in her hearts lie staring to the dentist with fear.And wished to looked after her teeth.

How I laughed at my mother’s false teeth,
As they foamed in the waters beneath.
But now comes the reckonin’
It’s methey are beckonin’
Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.

She is remembering how she used to laughed at her mother false teeth which foams in the water and regrets to look after her teeth.

●Moral :-. My dear friends we all should always look after our teeth if not want to suffer in the future with tooth ache.

Hope this helper a little...!!!!
