An old man was sitting on the side of the street, he was not getting very many donations, so he decided to try to make people feel even more sorry for him. "I will make people believe I am dum." The beggar said. So he began to slow his speech and slur his words, he began to use lower vocabulary and eventually, people believed he was dum. The people now felt even more sorry for the beggar and one gentleman was just about to donate a fourth of his savings to the beggar. Another beggar that knew this one well, said to the gentleman "This beggar is not dum, he is deceiving you with his trickery!" Then, as if this was rehearsed, the first beggar got up and shouted "You liar! How could I be smart enough to come up with something as that? This man was about to give me a fourth of his savings and you ruined it!" The gentleman saw what was happening and decided to offer him one sixth of his savings. The beggar cried out "Now it is even less than before!" The gentleman then knew that the beggar was not dum, because the beggar knew that one sixth was less than one fourth. "You thief! You tried to get more out of me than you need!" The gentleman said before turning and walking away.
