Generally there is only one egg released by one ovary each cycle. Occasionally two or more are released but even if fertilization does occur most times only one egg survives to become a child.
You didn't ask about multiple births, but here's a summary: If two or more eggs are fertilized, fraternal twins, triplets, etc. result. If one egg is fertilized then divides and separates at the very beginning, identical twins result.
