participative decision making -one of the essential features of democracy is the method of decision making . every democratic country allows active participation of people directly or indirectly in the decision making . direct participation could be traced back to ancient Greece where Athenian citizens assenbled to vote for inportant decisions

putting the idea into pracice , it is difficult for countries having large populations to get direct involved in decision making . the decision making process in mordern democracies is carried out by the elected representatives of the country . these representative express the demands and expectations of the people at large and final decisions are taken on the basia of majority votes . important decisions related to law , governance , defence and finance are taken care of by different branches of tbe democratic government namely executive , legislature and judiciary . all decisions adhere to the rules and regulations of the constitution .

2 ) recognizing in infividual dignity - individual dignity is a social value and democracry has the power to respect and enhance it . the right to degnity is protected and promoted by the constitution of te country . no authority and person can challenge it . human rights and fundamental rights have been recognized at both national and international levels which guarantee individual dignity to all . Thomas Jefferson and other founder of democratic ideals held that people are born free and have equal natural rights .

3) taking care of differences - every society hold different expectations from a government . democracy is the only form of government which has been able accommodate different intersts of people . it is important to recognize rheir demands and interests in order to uphold the principle of individual dignity . in case of government fails to accommodate difference the opposition party will make sure to raise the issue at national level , criticize and give a feedback .

the challenges for democracies are far reaching . there are problems within the democratic setups and the problems faced by countries in setting up democratic structures . on the one hand democratic nations have not been able to achieve equality for all and on the other hand the non democratic countries are unwilling to adopt it .
