Functions of Phloem:

  • transports organic substances (sucrose) made by plant during photosynthesis.
  • mostly away from leaves to storage organs.
  • transport reffered to as translocation.
  • solutes move up and down phloem unlike movement in xylem.
  • The sieve tube transports manufactured food from the leaves to all parts of plant.
  • The companion cells probably control the activities of the sieve tube.
