I don't think that corona is reduced by making conductors hollow. Making conductors have a larger radius of curvature reduces the intensity of the electric field at the surface of the conductor, which reduces corona. Then, since the conductor cross sectional area was probably sized for a particular maximum current, and you had to make the conductor larger in diameter to reduce corona, you can save weight and cost by leaving out some material in the middle, hence a hollow conductor. But it is the larger radius of curvature, not being hollow, that reduces corona.
