Answer:

80 g, 40 g

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the weight of 18-carat gold be x and the 12-carat gold be y.

Given, Pure gold is 24 carat.

⇒ (18x/24) + (12y/24) = 120(16/24)

⇒ (3x/4) + (y/2) = 80

⇒ 3x + 2y = 320    ------ (1)

Given each weighing 120 gm.

x + y = 120    ----- (2)

On solving (1) & (2) * 2, we get

⇒ 3x + 2y = 320

⇒ 2x + 2y = 240

   ---------------------

       x = 80

Substitute x = 80 in (i), we get

⇒ 3x + 2y = 320

⇒ 240 + 2y = 320

⇒ y = 40.

Therefore:

Weight of 18-carat gold is 80g.

Weight of 12-carat gold is 40g.

Hope it helps!
