suppose there is a tree and apple is hanging on it , the apple has some energy stored when it is in rest , so apple is hanging on a certain height and then apple falls and the potential energy is used as it falls down and a work is said to be done

W=F×S
W=mg×h
W=mgh

this is an example of gravitational potential energy

potential energy

SI unit is JOULE

potential energy =mgh

hope helped
