How absorbtion of earth's heat by Co² prevents the earth from becoming too cold?​

Carbon dioxide traps the heat that is released by the earth's surface thus keeping the earth warm. If they didn't trap the heat, it would've escaped into the atmosphere and cooled the earth which would've made our survival more difficult.
