The Colonials introduced several new art forms, styles, materials and techniques which were creatively adapted by Indian artists when European artists came to India in the 18th Century which brought their form of art with them. These artists introduced the art of realising. It was the depiction of the real life scene before them. They also introduced the art of oil painting in India.

The purpose of this was to establish the Western trends and culture in India. They wanted to establish their culture in India to create a comfortable environment for them.

Lots of changes were made during the British colonial period in India.

The new patrons of art, craft, music and dance were introduced that was really embraced by the Indian artists.
