how and why does the size of an atom vary on moving from left to right in a period (Modern periodic table)

the size of the atom on moving from left to right decreases.
reason:-
size of an atom depends on:-
1)number of shells-as the number of shells increases atomic size increases
2)nuclear charge-as the nuclear charge increases atomic size decreases.

On moving from left to right nuclear increases and number of shells remains the same. Therefore the atomic size decreases.
