Saturn's rings were first discovered by Galileo Galilei. But he couldn't define the nature of these rings.
In 1665, Christiaan Huygens defined the nature of the Saturn's rings.
But if we talk about "discovery" , it was done by Galileo.

There was a confusion as to whether light is made up of particles or waves.
Newton believed that light is made up of particles. But Christiaan Huygens said that light was made up of waves, which was widely accepted by everyone that time. But there were certain phenomenon of light that couldn't be explained by theory given by Huygens.

In 1905, the confusion ended when Albert Einstein proposed that light has both particle and wave theory. This led to formulation of new theory called "Quantum theory of Light" which tells that light has dual nature.
