The plains are divided into three parts which are:
a. The Brahmaputra plain which falls from Assam state is the first part of plain.
b. The Indus and its tributaries i.e. Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej, Chenab and Beas are the second part of plain.
c. The Ganga plains which falls between the Ghaggar and Teesta river is the third part of plain.
