In stator slots, RTDs are placed along with stator winding. Resistance of the RTD changes with changing temperature and this changed resistive value is sensed by a Wheatstone bridge circuit. This motor thermal overload protection scheme is very simple. RTD of stator is used as one arm of balanced Wheatstone bridge.
