Hey !!
On the basis of hydrolysis, carbohydrates can be divided into three major classes :
1. Monosaccharides : A carbohydrate that cannot be hydrolysed further to simple unit of polyhydroxy aldehyde or ketone is called as monosaccharide.
Example :- Glucose , fructose etc.
2. Oligosaccharides : A carbohydrate that yield two to ten monosaccharide units o hydrolysis is called as oligasaccharide.
Example :- Sucrose and maltose.
3. Polysaccharides : A carbohydrate which yield a larger number of monosaccharide units on hydrolysis is called as polysaccharides.
Example :- Starch , cellulose.
GOOD LUCK !!
