Answer:

Coal is formed from vegetable matter. Millions of years ago, dense forests on the surface of the Earth got buried under the soil. Due to high temperature and pressure they changed into peat, lignite and coal. Such dead vegetable matter got preserved between layers of sedimentary rock in very thick deposits.

Petroleum is the mineral oil found in rocks. it takes 1000 s of years for oil molecules to form. The remains of age-old creatures chemically change and get compressed into sedimentary rocks. With further pressure from the sea, they get even more compressed. This leads to chemical changes in the remains, turning them into combinations of hydrogen and carbon. Once the location of oil is found, special wells are sunk into oil-bearing rocks, obtaining crude oil and gas. Petroleum is refined and used as fuel for vehicles. It is distilled to form LPG, which is stored in gas cylinders and used for cooking. It can be mixed with non-hydrocarbons to crate lubricants paraffin wax and wax. Petrol can be used for dry cleaning of clothes.
